Capital One Financial Corp. has struck a deal to buy Maryland regional bank Chevy Chase Bank for $520 million in cash and stock, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

In November, McLean, Va.-based Capital One received an investment of about $3.55 billion under government’s bank rescue plan being run by the Treasury Department. The Journal said Capital One did not need that money to acquire Bethesda, Md.-based Chevy Chase.

Citing a person familiar with the deal, The Journal said Capital One expects Chevy Chase to have cumulative losses of $1.75 billion on its $11.8 billion loan portfolio.
